Li Erniu helped a victim of falling debris and called the police
Dialed 110 and got mocked by the dispatcher
and ridiculed by a college roommate in the same complex
Disheartened
plus a string of harassment calls
and probing texts that seemed from enemies
he fled the city to hide in a high-rise guesthouse converted from an unfinished building
After using the bathroom and washing his hands
from the lobby window (a very tall atrium) he saw staff setting up a long ladder to climb up
in maintenance uniforms
but he sensed they were coming for him (Li Erniu)
The lead was an apartment front-desk guy he'd met before
who jumped in first to make him drop his guard
Then looking left
the secondary bedroom window was lined with camo-clad soldiers
Doghead Lao Gao and several other brothers
Their window climb wasn't finished yet
so I shouted, Lao Gao stop hiding, come out
We gathered in the lobby
seeing old brothers come to take me
I put out my fist wanting to bump each of them
Their instructor signaled no
but the brothers still bumped fists with me one by one
Tears welled instantly
They believed I was innocent

Before eating I still felt danger
Gouzi ate some first

Gouzi suddenly collapsed motionless
I shouted the pufferfish is toxic—get the antidote
My cousin ran to her room and found it
I swallowed one pill myself
and stuffed fragments into Gouzi's mouth
still no reaction
So we had someone call the white-coat Western doctor supporting the village
He arrived, checked Gouzi, hooked up an ECG
Heartbeat still there but peaks were weak
A crowd around Gouzi for a long time
before I saw the ECG peaks strengthening
Gouzi finally stood up
The doctor said it wasn't pufferfish toxin
but that kids had left milk in a carton for days
and Gouzi drank expired milk with a virus in it
At a wedding the pastor on stage had just said everyone could eat
when a red light piercing the sky fell into a nearby forest
The bride ran first into the woods toward the red light
I vaguely saw a Superman landing
Then that monster stood up beside a big rock
grabbed someone nearby and ate them with a crunch
then chased me to the abandoned unfinished building
I stood on the roof watching its rectangular body try to climb up one wall
so I kicked off AC units and threw other objects, making it slip again and again
After a few times I realized it was too dumb
climbing the same wall tirelessly
so I went to a tilting building, let it climb enough times
and flung myself toward a distant structure
thinking the collapsing building would crush the monster haha
Then I went downstairs back to the wedding
At the exit road of the complex I met a rescuer arriving on a motorcycle
seemed like a real Superman type with sunglasses
I told him the monster was on the roof
and ran
