After half a year of thrashing
I'm back to the Hong Kong taught-master's plan
Returning to campus fits me best right now
It's also the original idea I had after leaving the company at the end of March
Why does it fit?
- Need a stable environment to settle
- Need to reconnect a social circle
- Need an international path
- Geography is convenient; no need to cross an ocean
- Close to home, close to Shenzhen
- Opens possibilities: Hong Kong status has extra value for marriage and the next generation
- A chance to restart the career path: fresh-grad status, a master's, studying abroad
- Language practice: English, Cantonese
- Exposure to an international education view
Earliest: apply by year-end
Enroll next fall
Graduate the year after
A two-year settling period in total
Year one is foundation / prep
1. Language: spoken Cantonese, spoken English
2. Technical: OS / databases / distributed systems (top university open courses)
Yeah, those two are enough
Then it's money
Saving more is never wrong
Year two is formal enrollment, very output-driven, paving the way to earn
1. Networking
2. Internships and job opportunities
In short: cut spending, learn the languages, take care of the body
Lie low for two years
Then a sharp turn for the decades ahead
This is also the first time in my life
at the largest time scale
with the widest and deepest thinking
that I've designed a path for myself
instead of depending on a path others preset for you
