Why I don't work overtime
First, I trust I can get the work done in eight hours
Overtime is for constraining slackers who game the system
That's not how I work
Managers shouldn't paper over weak hiring and weak management
by mindlessly stretching the workday
That's lazy and stupid
Second, overtime makes me inefficient
It wrecks my mental state and puts the cart before the horse
Those eight high-output hours get eaten away
Until you produce even less than if you hadn't stayed late
