The team that fits me looks like this
The boss knows the business inside out
The person who has gone deepest and understands it best
Can think through every step and every variable on the fly
Talks through every detail at length
Quantitative and qualitative
The big picture: industry knowledge, what peers are doing
The details: our specific edge versus competitors
Ideally that boss is a founder
Or at least my direct business lead
Not the type who only raises money
Or only studies technology
Fantasizing that throwing cash at hires will print revenue tomorrow
While they sit high up sipping tea, never getting their hands dirty on the front line
or leading the charge themselves
Hoping employees will run the whole chain on their own
While they sleep easy and count money in their dreams
That never ships anything
Another thing
Unconditionally trust the engineering team
Give them full support and recognition
Patiently explain business details over and over
Pull frontend and backend onto the same cognitive context
That's how a small elite team actually works
I've seen too many teams
who spend more hours together than with anyone else
and yet information transparency and cadence are miles apart
Each camp living in its own imagination
Unable to push in one direction
because the shared picture isn't shared at all
